Factors Affecting the Depression and Quality of Life of Vulnerable Elderly Receiving Fitting Home Visiting Health Service

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors that influenced the depression and quality of life of vulnerable elderly receiving filling home visiting health service.

Methods: The participants for this study were 530 elderly Korean men living in Daegu city. The date were collected using structured questionnaires. Chi-square, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test, Pearson`s Correlation Coefficeint and multiple regression with the SPSS program were used to analyze the data.

Results: The mean score of the depression was 25.16. The depression was showed more highly in subjects with family living under the same roof and non-experience of fall. The depression was associated with IADL positively and social support and quality of life negatively. The mean score of the quality of life was 24.95. The quality of life was showed more highly in subjects with Family living under the same roof and connecting volunteer. The quality of life was associated with IADL and depression negatively. The model including variables related to IADL, social support and satisfaction of Fitting Home Visiting Health Service, explained variance of the depression of elderly, such as 21.3 % of IADL, 4.7% of satisfaction of Fitting Home Visiting Health Service. The model including variables related to depression, IADL, social support and satisfaction of Fitting Home Visiting Health Service, explained variance of the quality of life of elderly, such as 28,3% of depression, 20.4% of IADL, 16.6% of satisfaction of Fitting Home Visiting Health Service. Finally, IADL and depression were predictors in explaining the level of the quality of life among vulnerable elderly.

Conclusion: Based on the findings of the study, in the future at visiting health care services, efficient and various programs for the elderly should be tried, to improve IADL and reduce depression. Additionally, consistent evaluation studies for those programs will be required.
